The celebration is still on. Everyday, you turn on the TV, and there'll be something about nationhood, patriotism.....- newspapers talk about the origin of the Negaraku - the eternal debate.
Speaking of the Negaraku, I remember our schooldays when we had to sing the National Anthem every assembly. The principal, an Irish nun, noticed that after the initial gusto of NEGARAKU....the rest were just mumbles - the tune was thewre, but she couldn't hear the lyrics. So she made us sing again... same results.. the process was repeated.... still can't catch the words we were mouthing. Finally she sent us back to class with instructions to the Class teacher to give us a Negaraku test. How we agonised over the lyrics. Some became creative.
These are some of the howlers :
1) Negaraku, tanah tumpahnya darahku,
Raja Tikus.....
2) Negaraku, tanah.......
Raja Tidur........
3) Raja Takut......
I am not joking - some of my friends wrote those masterpieces.... The principal was furious.
Well, my school will be having our Merdeka celebration aka Hari Jalur Gemilang - I am still thinking of a suitable patriotic message to inspire them. Any ideas ?

you dont say. hehe. i was one of them before. plus i used to listen to that song every morning in the bus. the uncle would happily sing the anthem every morning in the bus. except he modified the lyrics. so much for patriotism.
