HAKKA YAM ABACUS SEED

When I was a child, every Chinese New Year, our Hakka neighbour would bring us a special dish. It was so delicious that we children would wait with eager anticipation for Ah Sam's visit. Strange though, we never thought of asking her for the recipe. Thus every time I see yam in the market, visions of that delicious yam dish would come to my mind. My husband , who by the way, is a Hakka, said he had never heard of the dish. And every Hakka I met in Sabah also said they've never heard of that dish. There were puzzled looks - is this a figment of my imagination? nevertheless, I persisted. Now, thanks to the internet, I managed to track down the delicious dish - complete with recipe. See this link :

I tried the recipe given. The dish was so authentic, bringing back childhood memories. I shared the abacus seed yam dish with my cell members and they liked it. Vindicated !!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY PAUL !

Celebrated Paul"s birthday on Sunday. As parents, we reminisced : "Where have all the years gone? How fast they fly - one by one. And we feel... well...old..."

We had Beijing Duck Feast at Hyatt.

The skin was deliciously crisp and the meat moist and tender. Wish you all were here.

Happy Birthday Paul ! May the favour of the Lord be with you !!

PAUL THE CHEF

Since Paul"s homecoming, we have been very fortunate to be able to sample some of his culinary skills. Tonight we had curry fish - North Indian style.Paul prepared the spices from scratch - and the result was a very aromatic blend of spices. Here's the chef at work.

And the result was fish curry . The curry was creamy . Delicious indeed - especially paired with white wine.

Well, mum has not been idle either. The other day I bought some crayfish. I prepared some butter sauce and baked the crayfish. The result ? Tra-lah ....!!

The meat was tender and succulent. Just perfectly baked. My 'customers' regretted the fact that I bought only 1.2 kilos. Should have bought 3 kilos.
