Nebuchadnazzer

Just finished the book of Nehemiah and am now on to book of Daniel. These 2 characters shared many similarities. Both were captives and in the foreign king’s service ( although at different periods.) Both remained faithful to the Lord, although they were immersed in a foreign and decadent culture ( the palace is not an easy place to keep your purity!!) Both excelled in their service and were given due recognition and respect.
However, Nehemiah was a more elderly civil servant. He was a strategist and a tactition. He commanded moral authority and was able to rebuke his fellow Jews who had betrayed their cause. Daniel, on the other hand was a young man. The bible described him as a young man “ without any physical defect, handsome, showing aptitude for every kind of learning, well informed, quick to understand…” – in today’s terms, he would be the top scholar. These were the young people the Babylonians wanted to assimilate into their culture. They would be an asset to the country. ( In this respect, the Babylonians were smarter than Malaysia).
However, there was one person who intrigued me – King Nebuchadnazzer. I surfed the internet for more information about him – He was reputed to have built the “Hanging Gardens of Babylon” – one of the 7 wonders of the ancient world. King Neb was also famous for commissioning many awesome archictetural buildings and engineering projects. He was also a great conquerer and a cunning fellow ( read how he outwitted his court magicians!) He issued an impossible decree that placed Daniel and his friend in great danger. He had Daniel’s friend cast into a fiery furnace. However, he was smart enough to realize the power of Daniel’s God when those young men were saved from the fiery furnace. After that, he kept asking for prayers to be made to God for him. In fact he was always asking for prayers. Then King Neb. became mad – for 7 years and he finally recovered when he acknowledged the Almighty God. My question is – ‘Did he finally accept and believe in the same God that Daniel worshipped?” I can’t find any evidence in the bible dictionary. If anyone of you have any further infor. , let me know.
