THE NEW GRANNIES

Alfred and I are relishing our new roles in Perth - as Nathan's grandparents. Our activities revolve round the little tyke - his sleepings and wakings. How we smother him with hugs, cuddles, kisses and jostlings. Mmmmm baby smells nice !!

We talk all kinds of nonsense to him - nursery rhymes, gibberish as well as serious academic stuff, events, fairy tales - to a pair of young eager ears. He seems to enjoy those moments. He would look at us intently - sometimes a twitch at the corner of his mouth seems to indicate he's taking it all in (Hopefully!!)

It's amazing what a good baby Nathan is. He hardly fuss. A few coos to indicate feeding time, a few grunts for nappy change. And after feeding, he would knock off to sleep. There was once when he showed his 'true potential'. We were shopping in Garden City and after that Serene went with Meng How to get some stuff - leaving baby with Alfred and I. As we were driving, Nathan woke up. It was past his feeding time - and Nathan gave an indication he wanted to be fed. The cooings turned to whimpers and soon graduated to a full scale yells. We were at wit's ends and started singing him. It must have sounded good for he stopped and stared wondering at us. Of course one of the songs we sang was "No milk today......" baby understood!!

Of course we upset his routine. Poor Serene - trying to get some order in the baby's life - which is to drink, sleep, poo (not necessary in that order). And now baby wants to socialize. Come next week, when the uncles come to visit, they will sure to create a riot - and baby's routine will sure go haywire. Serene will fume but baby Nathan will love it and his routine may never be the same again.

P.S. - i can hear him now in the room with his mummy - resisting sleep!
