BUSINESS CLASS

Travelling business class, one tends to bump into certain public personalities and politicians. It seems everyone's a Datuk. You will hear "Oh, hello Datuk....' "There's Datuk So and So...." It seems every other person is a datuk, so to play safe, you just address them as "Datuk..." Anyway, I did meet a few interesting Datuk. One of them is Datuk Shapie Apdal the Minister for Arts and Culture and we had intersting discussion on the malaysian arts scene.

And just the other day, I was sitting next to the Sri Gading state coucillor Datuk Aziz Karpawi (?) Really must find out more about him. When he introduced himself, the name didn't ring a bell and even when he said he was a state councillor, I was still blank. Anyway we discussed on Sri Gading's potential, when I asked him what he had done to bring about development in the place. Of course politicians can talk.

Another interesting politician I met was the Member of Parliament for Cameron Highlands, Datuk Devan. A young politician in his 40s, he's slotted to take over from our friend Samy Vellu. Boy, this politician has the gift of the gab! There he was, yakking away, selling himself, while my friend and I nudged each other. We ribbed him on his kampong politics and the 'trustworthiness' of politicians. He took our ribbings good naturedly.
Meanwhile politicians need to be aware that they are under constant public strutiny. Here's Datuk Wee playing with his nose. (It's a no-no)

And what's Datuk Najib thinking? He 's scratching his head and looking perplexed.
