THE INCIDENTAL GARDENER

Dad's concept of an ideal garden is just a wide expanse of green. For him, this image is soothing to the eye, time and energy saving. Perhaps a koi pond to give life to the garden. Like a typical engineer, he goes for practicality and low maintenance!!

As such my efforts to plant vegetable has often been thwarted because he hates the messiness of a vegetable patch. However, I did manage to plant some and the fruits of my labour was very rewarding indeed and was proudly served at our table.

Thus, I was apalled to see the state of S and MH's garden. It was the most unkempt garden in the neighbourhood. These young people have been so busy that they didn't realise the state of their garden. So I fretted till dad agreed to get some action.

So here he is - happily moving the lawn. Something he would not even think of doing if he were back home. Oh, the things one does for the love of one's children.

It was hard work - it's amazing how much grass there is in a small lawn.
The result ? Ta - Da ! A beautifully mowed lawn!!

a lot of herbs are not very hardy. the only ones really thriving in my garden are the thyme and rosemary. basil leaves must be too sweet - all eaten up by caterpillars
