This China tour was not in our holiday plan, but when my sister called and asked if we were interested in going to Guilin, our response was an immediate, "YES!" Who has not heard of Guilin's famous mountains and rivers ? As the Chinese saying goes, "Guilin's scenic beauty is world-renown."
We reached Guandong 1.30 pm and upon arrival, took a 2 hour drive to Zhaoqing. Here, we were given 40-minute boat ride on Star Lake to view the peculiar limestone cliffs (our first activity).

That was our first introduction to China's famed mountain peaks, and well, it did not meet (my) expectations. I asked myself : "Where are those picturesque dark hills, enveloped by mists - as often seen in Chinese paintings?"
After the boat ride, we had dinner (another disappointment - what happened to the fine Chinese cuisine?) and then the tour guide brought us to see the Musical Fountain. That was quite a spectacular show
We put up a night in Zhaoqing and the next morning, headed to Yangshuo, There we visited the famed Moon Village (Yeh Liang Chun) - named after the hole in a peculiar mountain. The perfectly circular hole is the result of years of wind action. Tourists flocked to this particular village to look at this unique rock formation, and as such, made millionaires of these simple village folks ( who are now savvy businessmen in tourism-related industry). We had dinner in one of the villager's home restaurant. Some boney chicken, cloudy soup, lots of vegetable and loads of fatty meat . Pic below in the background is the much-touted Moon Mountain.
After lunch was another river cruise - along the famous Li River. Here, the boat-ride was more pleasant and scenic.
We had some fish and crabs fished from the Li River, (so tiny)
After the cruise, we headed to Guilin proper. Hence ends the first two days of our tour.
