GUILIN-YANGSHUO TOUR 2

Guilin is a highly comercialized tourist city. According to our local guide, there are 600 tour companies and 20,000 tour guides in Guilin alone! Actually, most of the majestic hills are not in Guilin per se but in the outskirts of the city. We took a stroll along Zengyang Pedestrian Street in downtown Guilin. It was fun shopping for traditional Chinese foodstuff.

The local guide introduced us to Guilin's speciality noodles. So early next morning, a few of us ventured on our own to sample the local cuisine . It was tasty and quite unique taste and only cost us Renminbi 3 per bowl. After breakfast, we toured the local market. The others who did not go with us were intrigued by our adventure.

The shop was just an unassuming small corner lot but patronised many locals. Here's dad trying to blend in with the locals....

The vegetables were placed on low cement platform and one had to bend down or squat in order to inspect the goods. On the left was a liquor shop. Reminded us of Chinese Kungfu movies.

Cakes and pastries galore - we bought some sticky yam cake. Taste a bit like 'Nien Kuo." Hmmm... things are picking up
