After dinner at the Public Restaurant in Ipoh, hankering for some dessert, we asked the waitress to recommend any street that sells desserts. She directed us to another glutton street (Tong Sui Kai-Syrup Street in English), near Excelsior hotel : "Hou Tor Sek - kor e sek hou tor lap chap." Translated : There's lots to choose from - you can have a variety of food there.' Dad's eyes widen, and then he started grinning. Lowering his voice, he whispered : "I'm amused by what she recommend - Do you know she asked us to eat lap sup? Recommending us to go and eat rubbish. ". Now, it was both YK and Alicia's turn to look stunned : "What!! No she didn't! It's Lap Chap - aiyoh, Alfred - your cantonese is horrendous!!" So it became a perennial joke among us - each time we wanted dessert, we would say : "LET'S GO FOR SOME LAP SUP - RUBBISH!" - followed by peals of laughter. I think we laughed ourselves silly thoughout this trip.
