KUALA LIPIS MISADVENTURE - PART II

For all her reputation as a 'Sleeping Hollow', Kuala Lipis has some nice things to offer. It was by accident that we stumbled onto a quaint restaurant 'Low Kwan restaurant' (GPS Coordinates:N4.18780,E102.05376). The proprietor introduced us 'the patin fish". We were skeptical initially, but after taking the first bite......... ah..... the texture was so smooth and fine ....... and we immediately ordered another round of patin.

After our meal, we posed for a photo with the proprietor and his wife.

Meanwhile, there was work to do. We drove to Institut Perguruan Ampuan Afzan, to check on how my staff were faring with putting up exhibition. The event was the launching of this institute as centre of excellence for indigeneous pedagody. 4 institutes in Malaysia were chosen to be centres of excellence for indigeneous pedagogy (mainly to develope teaching materials for the orang asli and to conduct research on education in orang asli areas). As my institute is also one of the centres, we participated in the exhibition.

We browsed through some of the materials brought from my institute............
but some people chose different ways in appreciating the native culture............

The event was launched by the Deputy Minister of Education but the star of the show seemed to be Alan and Alicia. The orang asli were fascinated by the white man - a rare sight here. "This must be some important white man from Australia.' They must be thinking. So they surrounded the duo, and after the event, the orang asli lined up to shake Alan's hand. I wish I had captured the scene. There they were (I spied from the corner of my eye), acting like royalty while the orang asli lined up to shake their hands. Even the Deputy Minister did not receive such royal treatment!!
